Cold Springs has the newest homes in the Reno area
Of the ten communities this site covers, Cold Springs has the youngest housing: the median home was built in 2004 (ACS 2024 5-year). That fits its growth. The census-designated place, just off U.S. 395 in the northwest Reno-Sparks area next to the California line, went from 3,834 people in 2000 to 8,544 in 2010, a 122.8% jump, and reached 10,153 by 2020. The 2024 estimate is about 11,300.
It is a homeowner community. About 92% of occupied homes are owner-occupied, 90% of units are single-family detached houses, and the remaining 10% (about 370 units) are mobile or manufactured homes. Cold Springs sits at 5,059 feet in Washoe County, so it shares Reno’s high-desert climate: hot, dry summers, windy springs and a long furnace season.
